ACC Betting Preview 2019, win total picks, predictions

The ACC Betting Preview is essentially Clemson and then everyone else underneath them. There will be some question marks with the Florida teams- Miami and Florida State, as these two teams will have some high expectations again. The Atlantic Divison is Clemson’s already and unless some super unlikely happens, and they will handle their side of the ACC. The Coastal Division is up for grabs, with Virginia, Virginia Tech and Miami in the mix for the crown. Here are my predictions for the ACC this year-

Atlantic Division

1. Clemson (12-0)

2. Florida State (8-4)

3. Syracuse (7-5)

4. NC State (7-5)

5. Wake Forest (6-6)

6. Boston College (6-6)

7. Louisville (3-9)

Coastal Division

1. Virginia (8-4)

2. Miami (8-4)

3. Virginia Tech (8-4)

4. Pittsburgh (6-6)

5. Duke (4-8)

6. North Carolina (4-8)

7. Georgia Tech (3-9)

ACC Atlantic (ACC Betting Preview)

Clemson

2018 over/under win total: 11.5

2018 regular season record: 12-0

Clemson is the favorite to win the National Championship this year with current odds around +180. This line for the total win/loss is a simple one in the sense that it is you, the bettor, betting on whether Clemson will go undefeated or losing one game (with 12 games total this year). The Tigers went 12-0 last year and have star QB Trevor Lawerence back under center. Clemson has a favorable schedule with their toughest game being at home against the Texas A&M Aggies on 9/7. If you think they can win this game at home, which I lean Tigers, you should fire up this over (full schedule is here). I obviously have Clemson winning the ACC also.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 11.5 (-110)

Florida State

2018 over/under win total: 8

2018 regular season record: 5-7

Florida State was one of the most disappointing teams last year and their 36-year bowl streak came to an end. Deondre Francois was dismissed from the team and transferred to FAU this off-season. They have a tough schedule this season, but Willie Taggart will have his second season as head coach. If they can beat Boise State to start the season, they will be prime position to win over 7.  From Fansided,

ACC Betting Preview

“In the 71 seasons that the FSU football program was in existence before Taggart even got to Tallahassee, the Seminoles had nine coaches lead the team for at least one full season with seven of them returning for year two (the first head coach, Ed Williamson, stuck around for just the inaugural 1947 season while Perry Moss bolted after the 1959 season.)

Of those seven coaches, five of them had a better record in their second season that included three of those coaches making it to a bowl game in year number two.”

So history is on the Noles side, and hopefully new starter, James Blackman will be on the Nole’s good side too. He has a few games under his belt from last season, which will be helpful headed into this season. He has had all summer to really grasp the offense and put on some weight. I like the glimpses I saw out of this kid and think he will do fine.

ACC Betting Preview – 2019 over/under win total prediction: Over 7 (-120)

Syracuse

2018 over/under win total: 5.5

2018 regular season record: 9-3

Syracuse has three very winnable games playing Liberty, Holy Cross, and Western Michigan. They will have a few favorable ACC Betting Previewgames at home against Boston College and Wake Forest (full schedule here), but I really feel like this team outperformed expectations because they enjoyed being under the radar. This won’t be the case this year as they will eyes on them by all teams in the ACC. Eric Dungey is gone at QB but they return plenty of weapons on offense. There is a lot of hype surrounding Tommy DeVito, who will be replacing Dungey, but ultimately I believe the Orange end up 7-5.

ACC Betting Preview – 2019 over/under win total prediction: under 7.5 (+120)

NC State

2018 over/under win total: 7.5

2018 regular season record: 9-3

There will be question marks for North Carolina State after losing quarterback Ryan Finley and also WR in Kelvin Harmon and Jakobi Meyers. This will be a down year for Dave Doeren and the Pack. The Wolfpack open with four non-conference games, including one against West Virginia. They should start off the season 3-1 (see full schedule here), and I have the Wolfpack winning 7 games. It will be interesting because the momentum of two straight 9 win seasons will still be felt, and the coaching is there as well, but the talent took a step back from last year. The Wolfpack should land at 7 wins this season and they would be content with that and to head to a bowl game.

ACC Betting Preview – 2019 over/under win total prediction: Under 7.5 (-140)

Wake Forest

ACC Betting Preview

2018 over/under win total: 6.5

2018 regular season record: 6-6

Wake Forest’s schedule is somewhat favorable (62 toughest out of 130, which is good for a power conference), as you can see here. The Demon Deacons have one of the easier schedules on this side of the ACC. They start off the season with Utah State, Rice, North Carolina, and Rice. They should go 3-1, even against a tough Utah State who is no pushover, and UNC, a game WF will be underdogs in. Then they have a bye and three straight home games in the middle of the season. November will be tough with road games at Virginia Tech, Clemson and Syracuse. They do have Duke at the end of the season also, which is a winnable game. Wake Forest should be able to squeeze out 6 wins. The strength of the defense is the Demon Deacons is their secondary, lead by Senior Essang Bassey, one of the best in the ACC. They also return Cade Carney at RB and Sage Surratt at WR, both are playmakers for the Demons. Bet on Wake Forest to go 6-6 this year.

ACC Betting Preview – 2019 over/under win total prediction: over 5.5 (-135)

Boston CollegeACC Betting Preview

2018 over/under win total: 7

2018 regular season record: 7-5

Boston College has 2 games they should win against Kansas and Rutgers who both are at the bottom of the power conference team rankings. They return workhorse A.J Dillon (see picture), but will need more than him for offensive production on that side of the ball. The Eagles also play Richmond which should be a win but then they endure one of the toughest stretches of any ACC team. They face Clemson (Away), Syracuse (Away), Florida State (Home), Norte Dame (Away), and Pittsburgh (Home). They would be lucky to win 1 of these 5 games and I just don’t see where the Eagles get to 7 wins. (see full schedule here) I am fine with taking on some juice at -150 here.

ACC Betting Preview – 2019 over/under win total prediction: under 6.5 (-150)

Louisville

2018 over/under win total: 7

2018 regular season record: 2-10

Louisville had a terrible year last year, only beating Indiana State and Western Kentucky. Scott Satterfield is their new head coach for this season and this could be another tough year for the Cards. They will have a few winnable games like Eastern Kentucky and potential Western Kentucky on a neutral site in Nashville. Louisville plays Virginia and Miami from the Coastal Division. They also play Florida State and Kentucky which will be two tough games to win. If they beat Western Kentucky, they have a 50/50 chance to crack 4 wins, but I don’t think the neutral site game is a sure win. They have a tough schedule otherwise, which you can see here. Ultimately, I think the Cards go 3-9 this year, winning one additional game than the previous season.

ACC Betting Preview- 2019 over/under win total prediction: under 3.5 (+120)

ACC Atlantic

ACC Betting PreviewVirginia

2018 over/under win total: 5

2018 regular season record: 7-5

This is a three horse race for the ACC Atlantic crown, and a chance to get beat by Clemson. Speaking of horses, Bronco Mendenhall has done great turning this program around, going 7-5 last season. There is good momentum riding into this season after Cavaliers beat the Gamecocks in the Belk Bowl. Bryce Perkins at QB is the rising star for this squad and he will need some younger playmakers such as Senior Joe Reed, Senior Hasise Dubois & Junior Terrell to step up offensively. They have a stretch were they play Duke, Lousiville, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Liberty (see full schedule here). They could potentially go 5-0 in this stretch. They have three winnable games to start the season and a home game against rivals Virginia Tech. This is another situation where the final game will most likely set up for the win total to go over or under, as I expect Virginia to be 7-4 headed into the final game.

ACC Betting Preview- 2019 over/under win total prediction: over 7.5 (-120)

Miami

2018 over/under win total: 9.5

2018 regular season record: 7-5

Miami fell under expectations last year going 7-5 as most expected at least 8 wins, some had them winning over 9. Miami will have a tough game right away with a game against the Florida Gators in neutral site Orlando, but after that, they have UNC, Bethune-Cookman, and Central Michigan. So at the least, expect the Canes to head into conference play at 3-1. MiamiACC Betting Preview will have 5 straight home games and this will be huge for them to find their groove (full schedule here). The Hurricanes face Florida State as well which will be a tough game on the road. They end the season with Louisville, FIU, and Duke, which I believe are 3 wins to end the season. I am bullish on the Canes with Manny Dias at the helm and a stellar group of QBs on the team. There will be a battle in fall camp between Tate Martell (Ohio State Transfer), N’Kosi Perry and redshirt freshman Jarren Williams. Ultimately, I think it comes down to Martell and Williams. With this team filled with playmakers on both sides of the ball (Turnover Chain) and DeeJay Dallas at WR (see picture), I have Miami going 8-4.

ACC Betting Preview- 2019 over/under win total prediction: Under 8.5 (-120)

Virginia Tech

2018 over/under win total: 8

2018 regular season record: 6-6

I was going to be very high on this team until Josh Jackson decided to transfer. Ryan Willis, the Kansas transfer will most likely be the starter for Tech. He went for 28 TDs and INTs playing average behind center. The Hokies do return both Damon Hazelton Jr and Tre Turner at wideout. The Hokies are at Boston College and also host Wake Forest as their cross-division opponents. They have tough road games against Miami, GT, Notre Dame, and rival Virginia but have very winnable games to start the season vs Furman, Old Dominion, and Rhode Island (see full schedule here). I actually think the Hokies land right at 8 wins, which is no surprise why the line is at exactly that. With the schedule at hand, Hokies should go 8-4.

ACC Betting Preview- 2019 over/under win total prediction:  Under 8 (-105)

ACC Betting PreviewPittsburgh

2018 over/under win total: 5

2018 regular season record: 7-5

Pittsburgh won the ACC Coastal last year and went over their win total by two games. This year, Pitt has one of the toughest starts to the schedule out of all teams in the ACC with Virginia, Ohio, Penn State and Central Florida. Luckily, the Panthers don’t have to face Clemson this year but do have to face Syracuse and Boston College. Miami (home) and Virginia Tech (Away) will also be tough games. This Pittsburgh team will be just as talented as last year, with QB Kenny Pickett returning with his top deep threats WR Taysir Mack, WR Maurice French, but their schedule is tougher than last year. This team will go as Pickett goes, who was putting up great numbers last year. This line is now at 5.5 wins down from 6 and I anticipate the Panthers being at 5-6, headed into Senior Day Game against the Boston College Eagles at home. I think Pitt can squeeze out a win here and I have them going 6-6 (Potentially 7-5 which is their ceiling). You can see the full schedule here.

ACC Betting Preview- 2019 over/under win total prediction: over 5.5 wins (-150)

Duke

2018 over/under win total: 6

2018 regular season record: 7-5

Duke loses star quarterback Daniel Jones and opens the season against a motivated Alabama, which it is fair to say we can chalk up a loss there. Duke also hosts Notre Dame in November and draws Syracuse with both are losses in my mind as well. Playing UVA (Away), Virginia Tech (Away) and Miami (Home) all will be tough games (full schedule here), They do host NC A&T and Georgia Tech and a road game against Middle Tenn St. This will be a down year for the Dukies even with a fifth-year senior, Quentin Harris, who is not bad at all even though he didn’t play much last year. Harris isn’t surrounded by many playmakers with much playing time. Duke’s defense was ranked 77th last year and will struggle keeping games under 30. I have the Blue Devils ending up at 4-8, and at +130, this is a great buy.

2019 over/under win total prediction: under 5.5 (+130)

ACC Betting PreviewNorth Carolina

2018 over/under win total: 5.5

2018 regular season record: 2-9

North Carolina plays South Carolina, Miami and Clemson to start the season. Yes, Mack Brown is now in the picture, but things are going to take more than a year to turn around after going 2-9 last year. UNC will be led by RBs Michael Carter and Antonio Williams, but still, have major question marks at QB. I have them winning three games against App St, Georgia Tech and Mercer, then either a win vs Duke or Wake Forest (full schedule here). Even with a W vs one of those teams, that lands UNC at 4 wins in this rebuilding year for the Heels.

2019 over/under win total prediction- Under 5 (+105)

Georgia Tech

2018 over/under win total: 6

2018 regular season record: 7-5

The sad news for some as the triple option is going away under new coach Geoff Collins from coming in from Temple. The Yellow Jackets face Clemson on the first Thursday of the season which may be a 5 TD loss for the Yellow Jackets. Tech has a stretch near the end of the season against Miami, VT, Virginia, Pittsburgh, NC State, and Georgia. Georgia Tech will be lucky to win a game during this stretch (see full schedule here). RB’s such as Jordan Mason and Jerry Howard Jr. will have to have big seasons on the offensive side of the ball as the QB decision will still be up in the air during fall camp. A team moving from an option attack to a pro-style spread attack will take at least 2-3 years to master, and therefore, I have Georgia Tech winning 3 games.

2019 over/under win total prediction- Under 4 (-150)

Clemson will face most Virginia for the ACC Championship and I, of course, have Clemson winning this one. I wouldn’t be surprised if Miami wins the Coastal, or even Virginia Tech as it could come down to the Commonwealth Cup. The ACC will not be as open as a Conference and some of the others, that is for sure. It will be interesting if anyone can come close to bringing down Clemson at any point this season.

Week 1 Lines-

My early leans are highlighted

CLEMSON -34 vs. GEORGIA TECH

WAKE FOREST -3.5 vs. UTAH STATE
